Langtang gosaikunda and helambu combined Trekking 
Langtang, Gosaikuna and Helambu combined trekking to meet the choice of those trekkers who looks for doing both treks in same  visit.

First attraction is Langtang valley : It begins in the lower Langtang Valley, trekking through its forests and among the villages and farmlands of its people, many of who are of Tibetan origin but now known as" Tamang". This area is rich of Tibetan culture, typical way of their living, and Buddhist Monastery, Chorten, Mani wall and prayer wheel. This was once an important trading route with Tibet, so that most of the villagers and peoples are involved in trade.

Second attractin is Gosaikunda lake: It  lies north of Kathmandu and is third most popular trek of Nepal. It combines the high mountain lakes at Gosainkund ( Frozen lakes) and spectacular valley of Langtang .Visit the beautiful Langtang National park and then trek to the end of the valley to view the wonderful mountains views. Following the Trisuli River north out of Kathmandu, we travel through Trisuli Bazaar and Dhunche which located on ridge of the mountain and you will have wonderful view of Langtang range, Ganesh himal and Dorje Lakpa. Crossing the Lauribenayak Pass (4610m./15213 ft.). There we are rewarded with the stunning views of the Manaslu, Ganesh Himal & even as far as the Annapurna massif.

Third attraction is Helambu : It covers the various range of brilliant green valleys, foggy rhododendron forests, and distant horizons of snowy peaks and the vivid contrast of Hindu and Tibetan Buddhist cultures. The Helambu trek is the ideal short trek and this  region remains relatively un-spoilt. Here you will experience the yolmo culture of high mountains villages, marvel at vistas of lonely high mountains and watch enchanted as the farmers toil in the fields using handmade tools and teams of water buffalo. Helambu valley trek noted for its scenic grandeur and pleasant climate. In Helambu, one can stay in highland monastery villages and small settlements in pristine forests. The Sherpa village's of Helambu focuses the charming cooperative of farmers and yak herders.
Overall, This area offer crossing passes, Superb mountain view, beautiful Holy lake like Gosainkunda, picturesque Sherpa village, impressive display of wild flower, an abundance of wild life, historical melarepa cave, Monasteries and of course friendly local people and their culture..

Suggested Itinerary 

Day 1: Kathmandu –Dhunche –Safru Bensi (1600m.5280ft.) 7 hours drive
We to Safru Bensi . We head north out of Kathmandu driving through scenic foothills and ridgeline vistas to Safru. Stay overnight there at lodge .
Meals included : Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Day 2: Safru Bensi- Lama Hotel (2470./8157 ft.) 5 hours walk
The trail ascend to Lama Hotel. En route you will see red pandas, monkey and bear if you are lucky. Stay there overnight at lodge.

Day 3: Lama Hotel -Langtang Village (3430m./11319ft.) 6 hours walk
The trek continue to ascend gradually to Langtang village. As you continue climbing there are occasional glimpses of Langtang Lirung between the trees. As you reach Ghora Tabela, the trail emerges from the forest. While walking here, you can catch a glimpse of white monkeys and local birds. Once there was a Tibetan resettlement project, but now it is a Nepalese army post though it has no permanent inhabitants. The trail continues to climb gently and the valley widens, passing a few temporary settlements used by herders who bring their livestock to graze in the high pastures during the summer months. There is a monastery which we can visit shortly before arriving at the village of Langtang, the headquarters of the Langtang National Park. The houses of Langtang and its neighboring villages are of the flat-roofed Tibetan style, surrounded by stone walls enclosing fields of buckwheat, potatoes, wheat, turnips and barley. Stay there overnight at lodge.

Day 4: Langtang Village -Kyanjing (3980m.13134ft.) 3 hours walk
Trek from Langtang Village to Kyangjin. The trail climbs gradually through small villages and yak pastures as the valley opens out further and the views become more extensive. After crossing several small streams and moraines, the trail reaches the settlement at Kyangjin. Here is a small monastery and a government-operated cheese factory. We should arrive at Kyangjin by lunch time allowing time to acclimatize and explore the area. It is a dramatic setting, with snow covered peaks surrounding us in all directions. At this point, you can enjoy the panoramic view of Dorje Lakpa (6990m.), Langtang Ri (6370m.), Langtang Lirung (7245m.) and so on. We stay there overnight at lodge.

Day 5: Explore  
We explore the side hikes today. You will have four major different choices to visit as: walk up the moraine to see the spectacular ice faces and tumbling glaciers of Langtang Lirung, ascend Kyangjin Ri [4350m], climb Tserku ri ( 5350m.) or walk to Langsisa Kharka. We recommend you to climb ascend Kyangjin Ri for good view and easy ascend though we will take you any of those places as your interest after we brief  you about them. We will stay at same lodge after we come back from you day trip.

Day 6: Kyanjing Gompa - Lama Hotel (2470m./8151 ft.) 6 hours walk
We walk down to Lama Hotel . From Kyangjin you retrace your route, following the Langtang Khola to Langtang village and on to Ghora Tabela. After lunch you continue descent to Lama Hotel. Stay there overnight at lodge.

Day 7: Lama Hotel –Thulo Sabru (2400m.7920ft.) 5 hours walk
Trek  to Thulo Syabru. The trail descend to Pairo then gradually ascend to Thulo Sabru village. The main inhabitants belong to Tamang community and they have adopted Tibetan lifestyle. Stay there overnight at lodge.

Day 8: Thulo Sabru-Lauribinayak (3850m./12705 ft.) 5 hours walk
We climb to Laurinayak today. It is beautiful walk through oak trees and better view of mountains. We walk shorter today to make sure for our climb to Gosainkunda for altitude mountains sickness and good mountains view with sunrise from Lauribinayak. You will see Langtang Lirung, Ganesh himal, Paldor peak, Dhoreje Lakpa, Manaslu, Annapurna range  in distance and panoramic picturesque of whole area in early morning. Stay there overnight at lodge.

Day 9:  Lauribinayak- Gosaikunda (4460m./14718 ft.) 4 hours walk
We ascend steep to Lauribinayak pass  and gradual walk to Gosainkunda. We would see a dozen of lakes there. Among them the main lakes are Sarawoti kunda, Bhairav kunda and Gosainda.  According to the legend, the Gosainkunda was created by hindu god Shiva when he pierced glacier with his trident to obtain water to quench his thirst after having swallowed poison. So, the Gosainkunda is believed as holy lake and every year during July there will be Gosainkunda festival. Stay there overnight at lodge.

Day 10: Explore around Gosaikunda
Whole day explore around lakes.

Day 11: Gosaikunda- Lauribina la pass-Fedi-Ghopte(3600m.11880ft.) 5 hours walk
Early morning, we start to climb up to Laurinbina la pass (4609m.) and heading down to Ghopte. Stay overnight at lodge.

Day 12: Ghopte-Tharepati-Melamchigyang-Tarkegyang (2620m./8646 ft.) 6 hours walk
At beginning of walk, it is zig zag trail to Tharepati then turning east, the trails rapidly descend down a ravine through small Sherpa village of Malemchigaon with nice lodges and fine old and artistic Gompas. The trail again descends leaving the village and crossing Malemchi Khola by a bridge and making the long climb up the other side of the valley to Tarke Gyang, which is the largest village in Helambu. Stay there overnight at lodge.

Day 13: Tarkegyang-Thimpu-Kathmandu ( 1400m./4620m.) 6 hours drive
Trek down Thimpu then continue drive to Kathmandu by overland. Transfer to your hotel.

Langtang National Park Fee
Langtang National park fee is cumpolsury to obtain to enter this trekking through Dhunche. You can obtain it in Nepal Tourism Board ( NTB) or government registered trekking agency as Nepal Alternative Treks or you also can pay directly at Dhunche . It costs NPR 3300 per person for foreighner and INR 1500 for Indian. You will need passport copy to obtain it. Our package includes national park fee. 

Shivapuri National Park Fee
You have to pay Shivapuri National park fee at Sundarijal Rs. 1500 per person for foreigner and Rs. 500 per person for Indian nationality. You will need passport copy or original passport to get paid. 

Trekker's information management system ( TIMS )
At the moment, TIMS counter is removed from Dhunche due to local debate. So, you are not required to get TIMS. 

Trekking Clothing equipment
When you select your personal items, keep in mind the number of days you will be trekking, the time of year and the altitude. We advise our clients to bring these items:

- Lightweight walking boots "walked" them in prior to arrival in Nepal to avoid blisters. 
- Light weight pants, shorts
- At night -track top, pants 
-  T-shirts. 
- Long sleeve shirt, if susceptible to sunburn. 
- Sun hat - sunburn is severe at rarefied altitudes. 
- Thick outer wooden socks, thin inner cotton 
- Vaseline for feet and crutch.
- Water bottle - 2 liters.
- Sunglasses and strap 
- Small headlamp/flashlight /torch
- Personal medical supplies - do not forget ban - aids, elastic bandage 
- Sunscreen, sun bock, sun - tan lotion. 
- Small daypack - 25 liters. 
- Rain jacket - poncho style to cover backpack.

- Sleeping bag to -15c with inner sheet ( You can get on rent at Thamel)

What is Acute Mountain Sickness (AMS) ?

Acute mountain sickness is an illness that can affect trekkers at high altitudes, usually above 8,000 feet (2,400 meters).

How do we know if I get AMS ?

Your symptoms will also depend on the speed of your climb and how hard you push (exert) yourself. Symptoms are as below:

  • Difficulty sleeping
  • Dizziness or light-headedness
  • Tiredness
  • Headache
  • Loss of appetite
  • Nausea or vomiting
  • Rapid pulse (heart rate)
  • shortness of breath with exertion
  • Cannot walk in a straight line

Diamox may be given to help you breathe better. It can help reduce mild symptoms. This medicine can make you urinate more often. Make sure you drink plenty of fluids and avoid alcohol when taking this drug. This medication works best when taken before reaching a high altitude.

Prevention and pre-cautious 

Keys to preventing acute mountain sickness include:

  • Climb the mountain gradually and slowly
  • Stop for a day or two of rest for every 2,000 feet (600 meters) above 8,000 feet (2,400 meters)
  • Sleep at a lower altitude when possible
  • Learn how to recognize early symptoms of mountain sickness
  • Drink plenty of fluid – 3 liters per day
  • Avoid alcohol
  • Eat regular meals, high in carbohydrates
  • Sleep well
  • Be well equipped

First aid

Owing to a sudden change in climate, altitude and other factors, it is obvious that there could arise some alterations in your health. It would be hard to know all aspects of Nepal's health problems.You will be eating and drinking in various outlets. Diarrhea is a common illness that a tourist would be facing. So, it is recommended to drink purified water and eat in clean outlets. Drinking and eating precautions will surely help to take care of many health problems that could arise during the trip. Staying hydrated during the travel, trekking, tours is highly recommended too. If any problem should arise during the trip. Being on good health before leaving for a trip would help you to enjoy your trip to the fullest.Though Nepal alternative treks will be carrying first aid medical kid, you are also suggested to take personal basic first medicines for in case.


We will leave you free to choose hotel in Kathmandu as there will various choices to select yourself. We will arrange twin share basis room in lodges during the trek. We will arrange shared washing room and toilet.


During our trek, we can enjoy authentic Nepalese food as well the more common international cuisine (Tibetan, Continental, Italian, Indian, etc.) in lodges during trekking. There will be served for breakfast, lunch and dinner three times along the route and most of the days Nepali national food " Dal Bhat " will be tested in route .

Physical Condition & Experience Requirements

Langtang, Gosaikunda and Helambu combined trek is an easy trek suitable for passionate walkers who have the ability to walk at least 5-6 hours a day with a light rucksack. As we will  get the highest elevation 4850 meter, you are preferred an excellent health with average physical fitness, have a positive attitude and strong determination, we can accomplish the trek successfully. Exercising and jogging regularly is good idea to enhance our strength and stability. Past hiking experience would be an asset but no technical skill is required for this trip. Participants with pre-existing medical conditions such as heart, lung, and blood diseases should inform Nepal alternative treks before booking the trek.
