We have recently contracted with local guides and porters at Safrubensi which is main starting point for Langtang Trekking, Tamang Heritage, Ruby valley and Gosainkunda Trekking. It is benefits for both trekkers and local people. Trekkers won’t have to pay any transportation from Kathmandu to Safrubensi and return as well as food, accommodation and salary for guide/ porter for two days. Just compensate them while they really work for you!

Are guides government registered license holder and experienced? 

Our local guides are first aid trained, government registered license holder, fluent English and Local language speaking, informative about destination and general knowledge of Nepal, Knowledgeable of local culture, local people, local tradition, religion and people’s life style. 

How much guide costs and what does it includes?

We offer the best price for guide is only US $ 30 per day. It includes their all meals, accommodation, salary, equipments, insurance, government tax and service charge.

What is difference between guide and guide cum porter? 

We suggest hiring guide cum porter for individual clients to get support of carrying some of your luggage and guiding by same person. Guide cum porter helps you to carry about 10 kg., English speaking, experienced and offer at lower price.

How much guide cum porter cost and what does it include? 

We offer guide cum porter is only US $ 25 per day. It includes all their meals, accommodation, wage, equipment and insurance. 

Need porter only? 

Our porters are very strong, honest, well equipped and experienced. We are specializing guide porters in this region for better information and knowledge.

Porter cost and includes? 

We offer the cost for porter is only US $ 20 per day.  It includes all their meals, accommodation, wage, equipment and insurance. 

What happened if guide/porter got accident or got sick along the trekking? 

Our guide/porters have fully insurance for medical, accidental or helicopter rescue coverage. We will manage it. 

How much porter can carry and how does he carry my luggage ?

Porter's weight limit is 20 kg but he won't mind to carry 2-3 kg more or less.  Company will provide duffle bag to carry your luggage but if you have your own rucksack then it will be good too. 

How to meet your guide/porters at Safrubensi/Duhnche ?

Our guide/porter will come to meet you at the Safru bensi /Dhunche bus station. We will give him your name. He will come to see you with your name showing at the white paper. Then you can discuss about next day plan for trekking and departure time. We will also provide you his phone number to contact yourself. 

Any problem of stealing your valuable things, leaving at half way, begging tips, arguing wages ? 

As main problem may happen for trekkers of taking guide and porters from local place, stolen trekker’s valuable things, leaving on half way, bargaining of wages in mid way, arguing for tips, poor equipments, no medical and accidental insurance, we ensure that our guides and porters are fully trustable and honesty. They are well paid, well equipped, medical and accidental insurance which covers Helicopter rescue, no bargaining of wages and not begging tips (not necessary only highly suggested). We ensure our guides and porters to assist you whole trek with warm Nepali hospitality and not arguing in unnecessary issues. We keep their guide license and citizenship with us at our office.

Which treks can start from Safrubensi and hire guide /porter?

We have been arranging local trekking guides, guide cum porter and porter from Safrubensi to Langtang Trekking, Tamang Heritage, Ruby valley trekking and Gosainkunda Trekking, Langtang Gosaikunda and Helambu combined Trekking , Ganja la pass Trekking and any trip that you customize as your preference. 

How do we arrange our luggage for porter to carry ?

If you are hiring a porter just for you as private then bring a 40- 50 liter ruck sack for a porter to carry but if you are sharing porter with another person then you will need to arrange 90- 100  liter ruck sack or take duffle bag from our company. 

Is any permits/National park fee/ TIMS required for this trekking ?

Langtang National Park Fee

Langtang National park fee is cumpolsury to obtain to enter this trekking through Dhunche. You can obtain it in Nepal Tourism Board ( NTB) or government registered trekking agency as Nepal Alternative Treks or you also can pay directly at Dhunche . It costs NPR 3000 per person for foreigner and NPR 1500 for Indian Nationalities. You will need a passport copy and cash in Nepali rupees 3000 to obtain it. 

Trekker's information Management System ( TIMS)

TIMS is compulsory for Langtang valley Trekking. The main aim of TIMS has come into implementation from Jan.2008.  Trekking agencies' association of Nepal (TAAN) and Nepal tour tourism board (NTB) has jointly recording the trekker's detail and issuing TIMS for trekkers.

TIMS can be applied through Government registered trekking agency as Nepal alternative treks. TIMS fees are NPR 2000 for individual trekkers and NPR 1000 for organized trekker. Individual TIMS has to be obtained at NTB in Kathmandu yourself . You are required passport copy, one passport size photograph and the amount NPR 2000 for TIMS.

Trekking Clothing equipment

When you select your personal items, keep in mind the number of days you will be trekking, the time of year and the altitude. We advise our clients to bring these items:

- Lightweight walking boots "walked" them in prior to arrival in Nepal to avoid blisters. 

- Light weight pants, shorts

- At night -track top, pants 

-  T-shirts. 

- Long sleeve shirt, if susceptible to sunburn. 

- Sun hat - sunburn is severe at rarefied altitudes. 

- Thick outer wooden socks, thin inner cotton 

- Vaseline for feet and crutch.

- Water bottle - 2 liters.

- Sunglasses and strap 

- Small headlamp/flashlight /torch

- Personal medical supplies - do not forget ban - aids, elastic bandage 

- Sunscreen, sun bock, sun - tan lotion. 

- Small daypack - 25 liters. 

- Rain jacket - poncho style to cover backpack. 

- Small towels 

- Warm down fiber filled jacket ( You can get on rent at Thamel) 

- Sleeping bag to -15c with inner sheet ( You can get on rent at Thamel) 

- Thermal underwear, woolen shirts and thick sweaters. 

- A pair of gloves 

- Snow glasses and strap

It is a condition of joining any of our trips that be protected against comprehensive expenses potential to incur due to medical issues or accidents (to include air ambulance, helicopter rescue, and treatment costs). Please be noted that we don’t arrange or sell insurance. A relaxed trip is not possible without good travel insurance. In the event of any sickness or injury, the cost of emergency treatment and evacuation is shocking. What is Acute Mountain Sickness (AMS) ?

Acute mountain sickness is an illness that can affect trekkers at high altitudes, usually above 8,000 feet (2,400 meters).

How do we know if I get AMS ?

Your symptoms will also depend on the speed of your climb and how hard you push (exert) yourself. Symptoms are as below:

  • Difficulty sleeping
  • Dizziness or light-headedness
  • Tiredness
  • Headache
  • Loss of appetite
  • Nausea or vomiting
  • Rapid pulse (heart rate)
  • shortness of breath with exertion
  • Cannot walk in a straight line

Treatment 

  1. Rest, Rest , Rest
  2. Go down, down, down
  3. Diamox

Diamox may be given to help you breathe better. It can help reduce mild symptoms. This medicine can make you urinate more often. Make sure you drink plenty of fluids and avoid alcohol when taking this drug. This medication works best when taken before reaching a high altitude.

Prevention and pre-cautious 

Keys to preventing acute mountain sickness include:

  • Climb the mountain gradually and slowly
  • Stop for a day or two of rest for every 2,000 feet (600 meters) above 8,000 feet (2,400 meters)
  • Sleep at a lower altitude when possible
  • Learn how to recognize early symptoms of mountain sickness
  • Drink plenty of fluid – 3 liters per day
  • Avoid alcohol
  • Eat regular meals, high in carbohydrates
  • Sleep well
  • Be well equipped

First aid

Owing to a sudden change in climate, altitude and other factors, it is obvious that there could arise some alterations in your health. It would be hard to know all aspects of Nepal's health problems.You will be eating and drinking in various outlets. Diarrhea is a common illness that a tourist would be facing. So, it is recommended to drink purified water and eat in clean outlets. Drinking and eating precautions will surely help to take care of many health problems that could arise during the trip. Staying hydrated during the travel, trekking, tours is highly recommended too. If any problem should arise during the trip. Being on good health before leaving for a trip would help you to enjoy your trip to the fullest.Though Nepal alternative treks will be carrying first aid medical kid, you are also suggested to take personal basic first medicines for in case.

Accommodation

Good lodges are available in this routes . Mostly lodges has twin share basis rooms with shared washing room and toilet. You also can have a single room on your request. 

Meals

During trek, You can enjoy authentic Nepalese food as well the more common international cuisine (Tibetan, Continental, Italian, Indian, etc.) in lodges. Lodge will serve breakfast, lunch and dinner three times along the route and most of the days Nepali national food " Dal Bhat " will be tested in route . You are not allowed to eat outside lodge or cook in thier kitchen. You must eat in same lodge as thier rule is strictly applied. 

Physical Condition & Experience Requirements

This trek is suitable for passionate walkers who have the ability to walk at least 5-6 hours a day with a light rucksack. As we will  get the highest elevation 3900 meter, you are preferred an excellent health with average physical fitness, have a positive attitude and strong determination, we can accomplish the trek successfully. Exercising and jogging regularly is good idea to enhance our strength and stability. Past hiking experience would be an asset but no technical skill is required for this trip. Participants with pre-existing medical conditions such as heart, lung, and blood diseases should inform Nepal alternative treks before booking the trek.
