Everest 3 Pass Trekking 

Everest three Pass trekking is the best option for adventures trekkers who is interested to do high pass trekking in Everst region. It can be extend few more days if they deserve rest days in some places. In this trekking they get an opportunity to cross three high passes of Everest region. They are Renjola pass (5435), Chola pass (5420m) and Kongmala Pass (5535m). This trekking offers natural grandeurs of world’s high altitude places with magnificent views of towering mountains.  As the trekking trail goes via Sherpa villages, the trekkers can also observe the authentic life style of mountain people. Like other trekking of Everest region this trekking also start from Lukla after 35 minutes mountain flight from Kathmandu. In the early days it follows the route leads to Namche Bazaar, the main junction of all Everest trekkers. From Namche Bazaar it takes the path to Thame village and Lungdhen. The next morning of their arrival in Lungdhen they move to cross first pass Renjola. Crossing Renjola they down to beautiful mountain lake Gokyo. That night they sleep in the mountain lodge nearby Gokyo Lake. Next morning first of all our trekking guide takes them for climbing Gokyo Ri for enchanting views of Mt. Everest and other high mountains, Gokyo lake and glacier. After lunch they catch the path of second adventurous high pass Chola pass. Crossing Chola pass first of all they trek up to Everest Base Camp and Kalapathar. Then they trek back for crossing third and last pass Kongmala. After Kongmala pass they take one day rest in Chhukung valley. From next day they follow the route of Namche Bazaar and Lukla. After arrival at Lukla their exciting trekking ends. And next morning they fly back to Kathmandu.

Suggested Itinerary

Day 1: Fly to Lukla - Trek to Phakding (2652m/8698ft) - 03 hours
As per flight time, our Guide will meet you in to your hotel and takes you to the domestic airport to fly in to Lukla. It is scenery flight about 35 minutes, once you get in to the Lukla, breakfast at the lodge and prepare luggage for the Porters then walking starts through the stone paved trails towards Bhaisekharka. It is few up downs to get in to Phakding passing through plenty of prayer Rocks (Mani in local language). After getting in to the lodge at Phakding, fresh up and short walk to the village or hike up to the Gompa to get acclimatize. Stay overnight at the lodge.

Day 2: Trek to Namche ( 3440m/11283ft)  - 05 hours
After hot breakfast at your lodge, the trail leads towards the suspension bridge and easy uphill to the Monju from where Sagarmath National Park begins. After short National Park formalities, drop down to the river, cross another suspension bridge and continue walk to the high Hilary Bridge at the bottom of the hill. After the bridge the trail leads uphill to the Namche Bazzar. On the way you will have great view of Mt. Everest, Mt. Lhotse, Mt. Kusum Khangru and more with beautiful valley. Stay overnight at the Lodge.

Day 3: Acclimatization day 
Today you explore the Museum, visit Khumjung village and Khongde village where you can enjoy the views of Mt. Everest and surroundings peaks with Sherpa culture. You can also visit Thame which is old Sherpa village as an option. Remaining of the day you can explore Namche Bazzar where you can use Internet, visit National Park head office, Muesuem and monastery as per your interest and time.  Stay overnight at lodge in Namche bazzar.

Day 4:Trek to Thame (3800m. 12540ft. ) - 03  hours
After breakfast at Namche, the trail leads to the old village called Thamo which is easy walk through the valley. Thamo is a small Sherpa village. After exploring the village, the trail leads continue to Thame. After lunch, rest a little while and explore the Sherpa village and its culture. There is small Hydro power where you can visit. Stay overnight at the Lodge.

Day 5: Trek to Lumde (4137m./ 13652ft.) -05 hours
After breakfast at the lodge, an easy walk to Marlung through the Bhote Koshi River where you can have short break. Then the trail leads uphill to Lumde through the dry valley. It is an interesting walking with enjoying the views of the snow peaked mountains and the valley. Today you won’t see Sherpa village because Thame is the last village of the valley. Once you get in to the village, hike a bit higher than the place where lodge is located to get acclimatize. Stay overnight at the Lodge.

Day 6: Trek to Ranjo la Pass (5465m/17,929ft  )- Gokyo Lake ( 4750m./15675ft.) -08 hours
After breakfast the trail leads uphill for an hour and half and then easy walk for a while. At the end, there is hard climb to get to the top of the Renjo La from where you will have an awesome view of Mt. Everest with Mt.Nuptse with surrounding peaks. You will also see Gokyo lake which breathtaking views. From the top of the Renjo La the trail drops down to the Third Lake (Gokya lake) and get in to the lodge. After time to get rest at the lodge at Gokyo, short climb to the ridge from where you will explore the Glacier which is amazing looking with its small glacier lakes. Stay overnight at Gokyo lodge.

Day 7:Trek to Thaknak (4750m/15580ft.) 03 hours
This is an easy day but we suggest you to start early because you will have to walk through the Glacier which is the longest glacier of Nepal called Ngozumpa glacier. By the time of crossing this glacier you will hear many sounds of the rock falling in to the small glacier lake. There are many rocks on the way which has ice underneath. During the sunny day ice melts pretty fast so we should cross this glacier before the sun gets strong. Once you get in to the Thaknak, better to climb up to the small hill for acclimatize. Stay overnight at the lodge.

Day 8: Trek to Chola pass (5367m/17604ft.) - Dzungla ( 4840m./15972dt.)  -07 hours
Today is the hardest day of the trip. Start your day just after the breakfast which is steep climbing for a while and the trail drops down to the bottom of the Chola. After that the trail leads you through the rock toward the top which is steep climbing. There are some Buddhist  prayer flags on the top of the pass which has great views of the mountains. There is icy part for a while and again the trail drops down through the huge rock and an easy walk at the end to get to the Dzungla. Stay overnight at the lodge.

Day 9 : Trek to Gorekshep (5,160m/16,929ft) -05 hours 
After hot breakfast at the lodge, an easy downhill for a while and few up and down to the Lobuche. Then the trail leads toward Gorekshep through the rocky trail. On the way you will have great views of the Mt. Everest,Mt. Nuptse,Mt. Pumori and more. You will be able to see Khumbu Glacier on the way. After few up downs, you will reach at Gorekshep which is located at the bottom of Kalapatthar. Stay overnight at the lodge.

Day 10: Day excursion the Base Camp (5,357m/17,575ft.) - 6 hours
This is a day which will fulfil your dreams to visit the base camp of the highest peak in the earth. It is 3 hour walk through the ridge of the Khumbu glacier. You will enjoy the surrounding views of the glacier and mountains. There are Buddhist prayer flags which are the symbol of the Base Camp. During the climbing season there will be many tends with colourful looking around. After exploring around, trek down to the lodge and remaining of the day chill out at the lodge. Stay overnight at lodge.

Day 11: Hike up to Kalapatthar and trek to Lobuche (5545m./18298ft. ) -06 hours
Today you will have to start your day without breakfast in the morning which is 2 hour hike up to the Kalapatthar, the greatest view point of the Mt. Everest, Mt. Nuptse, Mt. Pumori , Mt. Amadablam, Mt. Thamerserku, Mera Peak and many more. After taking many photographs, trek down to the lodge at Gorekshep for breakfast and continue your walk down to Lobuche. Stay overnight at the lodge.

Day 12: Trek to Kongma la pass (4,730m/15,518ft) - Chukung ( 4750m./15675ft.) -07 hours
After breakfast at the lodge, your day will start walking through Khumbu glacier towards east. After crossing the glacier and river the trail leads up to the pass which is the highest pass of this trip. There will be no tea shop and water resource so that you will have to carry few bottles of water to drink. After hard climb to the top, the trail drops steep down to the Chukung valley where your day ends. Stay overnight at the lodge.

Day 13 : Trek to Tengboche (3,867m/12684ft.) -05 hours
Today is an easy day which is downhill through the valley. The trail continues leads down to the Dingboche then after the walking valley gets change through few Sherpa villages. After Pangboche village the trail drops down to the river and cross the bridge. After that the trail leads up to the Tengboche where the oldest Monastery situated on the top of the hill. Evening visit Monastery, see the Buddhist chanting ceremony and overnight at the lodge.

Day 14: Trek to Namche ( 3440m/11,284ft.) -05 hours
Today your day starts walking steep downhill through the Rhododendron forest. Once you get at the bottom of the hill, cross the bridge and steep climbing through the pine and Juniper forest to the Khumjung. After explore the village at Khumjung,Lunch and continue walk to the Namche Bazzar for overnight.

Day 15: Trek to Lukla (2,800m/9,184ft.) - 06  hours
After breakfast at the lodge, the trail drops downhill through the pine forest till to the bridge and continue walk to the Monju. Again some formalities had to be done at the check post of the National park at Monju then continue walk to the Phakding for the lunch. After that your last day of the trek continue to the Lukla. Stay overnight at the lodge.

Day 16: FLy to Kathmandu (1350m/4428ft.) - 35 minutes
Normally flights are always in the morning due to the weather. So guide will do all airport formalities by the time you can have a breakfast at the lodge. Your luggage will get in to the airport already with the help of our sherpas and porters. Once guide get news about your flight arrival at Lukla airport, will call you to watch how the small aircraft get lands in to the small airstrip. After quick photograph, get in to the airport and straight away get in to the plane to fly out to Kathmandu.

Sagarmatha National Park fee

You must obtain Sagarmatha national park fee to enter Everest Three pass trekking. It is determined as the world heritage site by UNESCO. It’s main aim is to protect the wild life, flora and fauna in Everest region. We can find there himalayan tahr, ghoral, musk deer, pika (mouse hare), weasel, jackal, black bear, wolf, lynx and snow leopard. 193 species of birds including impeyan pheasant (Danphe), blood pheasant, red-billed chough, yellow-billed chough, snow cock, snow pigeon, Himalayan griffon and lammergeyer birds are found in this national park area.  As the vegetation, pine and hemlock forests at lower altitudes, while above 3,000 m, forests are dominated by silver fir, birch, rhododendron and juniper trees . Entrance fees are fixed for SAARC nationals - NPR 1,500 per person per entry, foreigners - NPR. 3,000 per person per entry. Trekkers can apply to obtain it in Nepal tourism board ( NTB) or government registered company as Nepal alternative treks or directly in entry point at Manju. You are required to bring your passport copy, one passport sized pictures and fee in cash. 

Pashang Lhamu Entry fee

Local government tax is collecting at Lukla by Pasang Lhamu Rural Municipality after local government is formed. You will have to pay NPR 2000.00 per person at Lukla directly. Passport copy is required to obtain. 

Trekking Clothing equipment

When you select your personal items, keep in mind the number of days you will be trekking, the time of year and the altitude. We advise our clients to bring these items:

- Lightweight walking boots "walked" them in prior to arrival in Nepal to avoid blisters. 
- Light weight pants, shorts
- At night -track top, pants 
-  T-shirts 
- Long sleeve shirt, if susceptible to sunburn. 
- Sun hat - sunburn is severe at rarefied altitudes. 
- Thick outer wooden socks, thin inner cotton 
- Vaseline for feet and crutch.
- Water bottle - 2 liters.
- Sunglasses and strap 
- Small headlamp/flashlight /torch
- Personal medical supplies - do not forget ban - aids, elastic bandage 
- Sunscreen, sun bock, sun - tan lotion. 
- Small daypack - 25 liters. 
- Rain jacket - poncho style to cover backpack. 
- Small towels 
- Warm down fiber filled jacket ( You can get on rent at Thamel) 
- Sleeping bag to -15c with inner sheet ( You can get on rent at Thamel) 
- Thermal underwear, woolen shirts and thick sweaters. 
- A pair of gloves 
- Snow glasses and strap

What is Acute Mountain Sickness (AMS) ?

Acute mountain sickness is an illness that can affect trekkers at high altitudes, usually above 8,000 feet (2,400 meters). If you follow precautious and our guide then you can avoid it. 

How do we know if I get AMS ?

Your symptoms will also depend on the speed of your climb and how hard you push (exert) yourself. Symptoms are as below:

  • Difficulty sleeping
  • Dizziness or light-headedness
  • Tiredness
  • Headache
  • Loss of appetite
  • Nausea or vomiting
  • Rapid pulse (heart rate)
  • shortness of breath with exertion
  • Cannot walk in a straight line

Treatment 

  1. Rest, Rest , Rest
  2. Go down, down, down
  3. Diamox

Diamox may be given to help you breathe better. It can help reduce mild symptoms. This medicine can make you urinate more often. Make sure you drink plenty of fluids and avoid alcohol when taking this drug. This medication works best when taken before reaching a high altitude.

Prevention and pre-cautious 

Keys to preventing acute mountain sickness include:

  • Climb the mountain gradually and slowly
  • Stop for a day or two of rest for every 2,000 feet (600 meters) above 8,000 feet (2,400 meters)
  • Sleep at a lower altitude when possible
  • Learn how to recognize early symptoms of mountain sickness
  • Drink plenty of fluid – 3 liters per day
  • Avoid alcohol
  • Eat regular meals, high in carbohydrates
  • Sleep well
  • Be well equipped

First aid

Owing to a sudden change in climate, altitude and other factors, it is obvious that there could arise some alterations in your health. It would be hard to know all aspects of Nepal's health problems.You will be eating and drinking in various outlets. Diarrhea is a common illness that a tourist would be facing. So, it is recommended to drink purified water and eat in clean outlets. Drinking and eating precautions will surely help to take care of many health problems that could arise during the trip. Staying hydrated during the travel, trekking, tours is highly recommended too. If any problem should arise during the trip. Being on good health before leaving for a trip would help you to enjoy your trip to the fullest.Though Nepal alternative treks will be carrying first aid medical kid, you are also suggested to take personal basic first medicines for in case.

Accommodation

We will leave you free to choose hotel in Kathmandu as there will various choices. We will arrange twin share basis room in lodges during the trek. We will arrange shared washing room and toilet.

Meals

During our trek, we can enjoy authentic Nepalese food as well the more common international cuisine (Tibetan, Continental, Italian, Indian, etc.) at lodges. There will be served breakfast, lunch and dinner three times along the route on your own choice from MENU .

Physical Condition & Experience Requirements

Everest three pass trekking is hard  trek, Suitable for passionate walkers who have the ability to walk at least 5-6 hours a day with a light rucksack. As we will  get the highest elevation 5550 meter you are preferred an excellent health with average physical fitness, have a positive attitude and strong determination, we can accomplish the trek successfully. Exercising and jogging regularly is good idea to enhance our strength and stability. Past hiking experience would be an asset but no technical skill is required for this trip. Participants with pre-existing medical conditions such as heart, lung, and blood diseases should inform Nepal alternative treks before booking the trek.
